The razor is pretty good overall. I like the idea of chrome plated solid brass after my last razor made of cheap material fell apart. If there was one area that I would change, that is the size of the knurl on the handle. I would prefer a much courser knurl for a better grip with slippery soap, and fewer places for the soap to accumulate. This was a big enough deal that I looked to buy a different razor, but in the end will just live with this one.
I’m a new wet shaver and was very pleased with the Parker 91R. I had heard and read that Parker razors tended to be very aggressive. However, my experience was quite different. It provided a pleasant and non-irritating shave - no nicks, cuts or razor burn. I would highly recommend this razor.
nice handle, grip and feel, but would prefer if it was a bit heavier
Some people might shy away from safety razor cause of its learning curve, but if u get a hang of it, saves lots of money in the long run
I've been shaving for close to 40 years. In that time I had used almost exclusively twin-blade cartridge razors. After some thought I made the switch to a safety razor, mostly based on the cost of blades, but also because it is becoming increasingly difficult to find replacement handles for twin-blade cartridges. I bought the Parker 91R based on its advertised heft and its price. After a month of using it here is what I can report. (1) The 91R is a high quality product. (2) It does take some getting used to, but using a safety razor is not nearly as difficult to learn as you may have been led to believe. I'm an old dog and this was not a difficult new trick. (3) Shaving with a safety razor does take more time than a cartridge razor, but the results are worth it. (4) The quality of my shave was at least as good as my old twin-blade razor from day one. After getting the hang of it, I feel my shave is better. (5) After a little experience I find that I am no more likely to cut myself with the 91R than I was with my old twin-blade. You do need to take some care shaving around the mouth and nose. (6) I have been able to continue to use my same old shave gel that I have been using for years with the 91R. (7) I have found that my complexion has improved noticeably since switching to the safety razor. This has actually resulted in fewer nicks as my skin is not as bumpy as before. Also, starting in my late 30's I was struggling with what I thought was rosacea. The red mottling on my face would be particularly pronounced after shaving. Not so with the safety razor. I can't explain this specifically, but it is probably because the safety razor is all metal and is therefore not as rough on the skin.
